Who we are

Matchball is a platform that connects players with tennis coaches. The training contract is between the player and the coach — Matchball is not a party to it; we provide the introduction, the payment and support.

Service operator

Matchball is operated by Martin Mucha, sole trader, Košice, Slovakia, company ID 57 799 032, registered in the Trade Register of the Slovak Republic. Contact: support@matchballapp.com.

A coach can be a business or a private person

A coach is either a business (has a company ID and a trade licence or company) or a private person. A coach who gives us a company ID when registering is a business for us; we treat others as private persons. If you made the training contract with a private person, consumer protection (e.g. the right of withdrawal and liability for defects) does not apply to it; Matchball is then only the platform intermediary. We will tell you a particular coach’s status on request via support.

Who can use the app

You must be at least 16 to create an account. A parent books training for a child from their own account.

Bookings

A booking is a request for a slot that the coach must confirm. Payment is taken only after confirmation and Matchball holds it until the training takes place. The coach is paid out afterwards.

Fees

Matchball takes nothing from the price of a training session. When paying by card in the app, the player pays the coach’s price plus a Matchball service fee (5% + €0.30, or in Czechia 5% + 7.50 CZK) — it covers the refund guarantee and cancellation rules. Prices shown in the app are WITHOUT this fee — they are the coach’s price. With a direct payment to the coach (QR bank transfer or cash) the player pays exactly that price; paying by card adds the fee, which the player sees before confirming the payment. Registration, using the app, sparring and groups are free.

Direct payment to the coach

A coach can also accept payment outside Matchball — by QR bank transfer or in cash. In that case Matchball is not a party to the payment: the money never passes through us, and we are not responsible for it being paid, received or refunded. “I’ve paid” and “Confirm receipt” are only a record of what the player and coach agreed, not proof of payment. Cancellation rules, the payout hold period and the money-back guarantee apply only to card payments. Any dispute is between the player and the coach; inappropriate coach behaviour can still be reported from their profile.

Cancellations and refunds

This section applies to card payments made through the app. Cancelling within 60 minutes of booking is always free. After that: more than 16 hours before the start — full refund; 6 to 16 hours before — half is refunded; less than 6 hours before or a no-show — no refund, the coach keeps the payment. If the coach cancels, the player is refunded in full regardless of timing.

If something goes wrong

This section applies to card payments made through the app. If the training did not happen or differed from what was agreed, report it via Contact support. We hold the coach’s payout until we have looked into it, then refund or release the money accordingly.

Hour packages

A package is a prepaid set of 5, 10 or 20 trainings with one coach at a discount, valid for 12 months from purchase. If you are a consumer and the coach is a business, you have the right to withdraw from the purchase of a package within 14 days of buying it, without giving a reason. If you have already used or booked trainings from the package, we refund a proportionate part of the price for the unused trainings (based on the price you paid for them in the package). You can withdraw through Contact support in the app or by email to support@matchballapp.com; a clear statement that you withdraw is enough, and you may use the model form below. We refund by the same means you paid with, within 14 days of withdrawal.

Model withdrawal form: To: Matchball, Martin Mucha, Košice, Slovakia, support@matchballapp.com. I hereby withdraw from the contract for the purchase of a training package: [package name and coach], ordered on [date]. Consumer’s name: [name]. Account email: [email]. Date: [date]. No signature is needed if you send the form by email.

Coach obligations

Coaches are responsible for the accuracy of their information, their qualifications and the safety of training. Anyone providing paid lessons regularly must hold a trade licence and settle their own taxes. We report their earnings to the tax authority once a year (DAC7 directive).

Verified coach

The check mark next to a name means two things: we found the coach in the national sport register and Stripe verified their identity. It says nothing about the quality of a particular training — we are not there with you. Coaches without the mark can take bookings too; nobody has checked their qualifications, and you decide based on the profile, ratings and your own judgement. Search lets you show verified coaches only.

Rules of conduct

Harassment, abuse, false profile information, taking payment outside the app and creating accounts in someone else’s name are prohibited. We may block users who break these rules. Report inappropriate behaviour from a profile or from chat.

How we rank coaches and groups

In Search a player chooses a city, a sport and further filters (price, gender, verified coaches only). In the recommended order, favourite coaches and those you have already written to come first, then other coaches by these main parameters: rating (weighted by the number of reviews so one review does not decide the order), verified coaching licence, number of hours trained and activity in the app. You can switch the order to cheapest or top rated. Ranking cannot be bought — nobody pays for display or a better position. We offer groups and players by city, sport and dates.

Reviews

Only a person who took part in a completed training on Matchball can write a review (a player about the coach, a coach about the player); other reviews cannot be created. We check the match with a completed booking automatically; we do not verify that a review matches reality. Coach reviews are public, player reviews are visible to coaches only. A review can be anonymous (without a name). Reviews cannot be bought; for the first review they write, the author gets a one-off in-game reward (a mystery box) regardless of whether the review is positive or negative. You can report an inappropriate or false review and an administrator will check it; we hide reviews that break the rules.

For coaches

A coach is a business user towards Matchball and these rules apply to them as well. We may suspend or terminate a coach account for: false information or documents, breaking the rules of conduct, repeatedly not honouring bookings, fraud or taking payment outside the app, a safety risk, failing a legal obligation (e.g. missing DAC7 data), a legal order. Before suspension or termination, or without undue delay after it, we send a statement of reasons with the grounds and the option to object; send complaints to support@matchballapp.com and we will handle them without undue delay. We will notify you of changes to these terms that concern you as a coach at least 15 days in advance. Ranking and display of coaches is described in How we rank coaches and groups. You have access to the data on your account, bookings and reviews in the app.

Moderation and contact

Prohibited content: harassment, abuse, hate speech, sexual or violent content, false information, spam, fraud, content infringing others’ rights and illegal content. Profile photos and chat photos are checked automatically (Google Vision SafeSearch) and a person decides when in doubt; other content we review after reports. You can report content or a user from a profile, message or review in the app; without an account write to support@matchballapp.com — the same address is our single point of contact for users and authorities (languages: Slovak, Czech, English). If we remove content or restrict your account, we tell you the reason (the rule or law broken), whether the decision was automated, and that you can object by replying to the support email.

Liability

Matchball is not responsible for the training itself, for injury, or for the conduct of users — not even with a verified coach. Verification covers documents, not how a session goes. Train within your ability and consider your own insurance. For a direct payment to the coach, the liability limits in the Direct payment to the coach section above apply.

Right of withdrawal

A booking of a single training is a leisure service provided on an agreed date, so the 14-day right of withdrawal does not apply to it (Slovak Consumer Protection Act No. 108/2024 Coll.; Directive 2011/83/EU, Art. 16(l)). The cancellation terms above apply instead. This exception does not apply to hour packages — see Hour packages.

Data sources

Weather forecasts come from Apple Weather; the list of sources is shown next to every forecast in the app. The list of towns comes from the GeoNames database (geonames.org), published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence.

Governing law

Slovak law applies; the protection given to you as a consumer by mandatory rules of the country where you live is not affected. If we have not resolved a dispute directly (write to support@matchballapp.com), as a consumer you can contact the Slovak Trade Inspection (soi.sk) and file a proposal for alternative dispute resolution (ADR) with a body on the list kept by the Slovak Ministry of Economy.

Changes

We may update these terms. We will notify you in the app about any material changes; coaches about changes that concern them at least 15 days in advance.
